Day 15, 7 May: Zero Day in Idyllwild

Today we planned to do no hiking, instead we took time to rest and resupply in town. We started the day off with bacon and eggs, cooked in our cabin which saved us all a lot of money and really hit the spot.

Now that’s a healthy looking breakfast, half a sausage under there too

I spent the rest of the morning exploring Idyllwild. It’s a beautiful small town high in the mountains, with redwood forests all around and a spectacular backdrop, Tahquitz Peak. We’re going to be on top of that peak in a few days.

The building in the center of town hosts about a dozen businesses

Most of the afternoon was devoted to resupply, I wandered around the supermarket looking for food. The plan was to spend 5 days getting to the next town, which includes summiting Mt San Jacinto on the way. I needed to find enough food and supplies to last the whole time. I also visited the gear store for gas stove fuel, and electrolytes.

A few other hiker groups were in town, including a lot of familiar faces. With the resupply work done, we decided to go back to the pub to meet up. After a couple of beers, we picked up huge pizzas from the local spot across the road, I instantly realized my eyes were bigger than my stomach.

At the end of a long day resting, I’m exhausted and glad to be returning to a real bed for one more night.
