Today we covered 16.6 miles, 26.7 km from Cooper Canyon trail camp to a spot on the north east spur of Mt Pacifico.
The day began with a long climb out of Cooper Canyon. The trail looped around a huge bowl, and I could look across and see the trail half an hour behind me. We climbed through tinder dry pine forest, which provided a bit of shade to keep me cool.

After the climb, the trail descended to highway 2. We followed this road for 5 miles, crossing occasionally to walk either above or below the road. During this section the trail followed a very gentle grade which was very wide and level. In places, you could tell that this was the old road years and years ago.

Along this stretch I crossed the 400 mile marker, 644 km. Someone had made a big 400 out of rocks and pinecones on the side of the trail. I stopped for a moment to reflect on having walked this far.

Shortly after the marker, I reached camp Glenwood. There was a water source here, as well as picnic tables and a comfy place to sit. After filling up water bottles, I continued on the beautifully flat and level trail.

We stopped for lunch at the Three Points picnic area. While here, a car pulled up and offered snacks and cold drinks. I took some snacks and a can of Dr Pepper. The driver introduced himself as Bob from the Angeles Crest Christian Camp. We hung out and chatted for a while about the trail, and the closures behind us.

After lunch, the trail began a very long climb. During this climb, the bush thinned out and the track snaked around ridges and valleys on the way up.

The view and campsite at the top were so worth it. We showed up to camp around 6:30 pm with just enough daylight to set up tents and cook dinner. I got to eat my dinner and watch the sunset glow fade from the mountains around me.
