The idea to make this trip came to me in September last year, and being a keen tramper from NZ it didn’t take long for the idea to begin to grow into a solid plan.

Starting late April, I’ll be hiking for 5-6 months up the West Coast of USA, passing through the desert of Southern California, the high mountains and alpine ranges of Sierra Nevada and Northern California before continuing through the mountains, lakes and lush forests of Oregon and Washington. The journey links the Mexican border with the Canadian border along 4265 km or 2650 miles, with dozens of towns to visit and side quests along the way.

Each day I’ll be recording my progress, what I’ve experienced on the trail, and I’ll be uploading a blog to share these experiences. I want to share moments from the trail, challenges, triumphs, town stops, and people I’ve met along the way. For others to enjoy, as well as for me to remember, long after the trip is done.
