After yesterday’s efforts, my legs needed a break. Fortunately we were near the town of Cabazon, which has a gas station, an In-N-Out Burger joint, and a Dollar General nearby. I had a decent sleep in and got out of camp around 9am. All I needed to do was walk down the road and find a ride to Cabazon.

As soon as I got to a public road, I spotted a vehicle with hikers loading up the back. The driver, a trail angel named Nitsy, waved me over to get in as well. I couldn’t have had luckier timing. We drove to Cabazon and made our stop at In-N-Out. This place has real American burger joint vibes and is a renowned institution in California. Most importantly, it fills up a hikers stomach fast. While there, incredibly generous locals would approach and give things like cookies, bananas, and even a brand new stick of sunscreen!

After eating and resupplying at the Dollar General on the way out, we got to the trail head and visited the I10 Hiker Oasis, an under-bridge with tagging all over the walls. Two hikers walked in who had just come down the ridge, one looked even worse than I felt yesterday and I hope they are going to spend some good time in town.

I hiked just 4 miles to the Mesa Windfarm, and set up camp next to their offices. This place is friendly to hikers and allows them to camp in front of their gate.
